Silver

Why invest in Silver?

There are several reasons to own Silver
First, it’s cheaper! Known as the poor man’s gold, those with limited budgets will find it easier to acquire.

Second, silver has a wide variety of industrial uses and this can help its price. As its consumption increases across a growing number of industries, this should help place a floor under demand. Additionally, because of silver’s unique properties new uses will continue to be discovered.

Third, silver is money and has served this role more than any other material on earth. Due to its historical role, silver will always have monetary value and offer similar protection as gold to the ongoing global currency devaluations, and will definitely benefit from the inflation hurricane we see as inevitable.

Fourth, silver could outperform gold before this bull market is over. The market capitalization of silver is much smaller, making its price more susceptible to demand spikes than gold.

Silver is among the most liquid of the world’s assets. It can be sold 24 hours a day in one or more markets around the world. This cannot be said of most investments, including stocks of the world’s largest corporations.

Silver Rounds

Silver rounds have become a popular alternative to silver coins. They are minted in a familiar round coin-like shape and have silver purity levels of .999 and above. The main difference that separates silver rounds from silver coins is that they are not legal tender and therefore carry no face value. For those interested in obtaining silver bullion at low premiums over spot, silver rounds represent an acceptable substitute to silver coins.

90% US Mint Silver Coins

90% Silver
All commonly circulated U.S. coins minted 1964 or earlier contained 90% silver. These coins have some wear from being in circulation, and since they were mass produced are not considered to be rare. For these reasons, the term junk silver is also used to describe these coins since they are not highly prized by collectors. However, because they have a silver content of 90%, they are highly valued by silver investors.

American Bullion & Coin is proud and excited to offer one of the most convenient and versatile ways to own silver… $1,000 face value bags of pre-1965 circulated United States minted coins (dimes, quarters and halves) with 90 percent silver content.

Each bag is sometimes referred to as “junk silver bag,” as they are sold for their bullion face value, instead of a collector value. The coins are priced by face value, rather than by the ounce. One dollar face value (ten dimes, four quarters, or two half dollars) contains 0.715 of an ounce of silver. Therefore, a bag ($1,000 face value) of 90% silver coins contains 715 troy ounces of pure silver and weighs 791 troy ounces (about 50 pounds).

Today, you rarely see these pre-1965 U.S. minted 90% silver content coins in circulation. Why? Because although these coins are U.S. legal tender and can still be used to purchase goods and services, their actual and true value is based on the amount of pure silver they contain, and that value today is substantially higher than the coins’ face value.

In the 1960’s, when Public Law 88-36 was passed, silver was eliminated as the underlying exchange for one and two dollar bills. In 1965, the U.S. Mint discontinued minting dimes, quarters and half dollars with a 90% silver content and switched instead to cheaper cupro-nickel coins with less intrinsic value.

Guarantee of Face Value
One of the primary benefits of a 90% silver coin bag investment is that the bag has a built-in guarantee simply unavailable with most other silver investments: No matter what happens to the price of silver, the value of your 90% silver bag will never be worth less than its $1,000 face value.

Real Money
In addition, buying U.S. 90% silver coins offer you a convenient, transportable and divisible way to own silver. They are real money… you can spend the coins anywhere… and they will never be worth less than their face value.

Highly Recommended
We highly recommend these U.S. 90% Silver Coin Bags because they are a bargain if you want to own silver at a lower premium than most silver bullion coins. Contact us today to discuss how a U.S. 90% silver coin bag investment could and possibly should become part of your investment portfolio.

Numismatics

Barber Half Dollar
Barber halves were minted between 1892 and 1915. They are one of the coin market’s most important issues. They are collected both by date and by “type” collectors. They are the rarest of the 20th Century sliver type issues. They are beautiful and important rare coins, and both Gem quality circulation strikes and proofs are wonderful.

Definition of Numismatics…
Coin collecting, or the study of currency. Coins may be collected for scholarly or historical purposes, such as to gain a deeper insight into past cultures, for financial profit, or purely as a hobby. Coins derive their perceived value not just from their actual currency value, but also from their age, rarity, and other factors.

The American Numismatic Association was founded in 1891, with the goal of educating people about the study of numismatics, and now has over 33,000 members.

Why own rare coins?

To the collector, each rare coin is a work of art and a piece of American history. To the investor, rare United States coins represent a tangible investment with excellent long term price performance which has been documented in many highly respected financial publications, including The Wall Street Journal and Barron’s.

Until recently, the profitability of rare coins was enjoyed almost exclusively by those who possessed the expertise to recognize and acquire the finest coins. However, recent developments in the rare coin industry have opened up this promising market to virtually all investors. United States rare coins remain one of the most private of all investments which are easily stored and transported. United States coins are considered collectibles and, by federal law, cannot be confiscated in times of national crisis. Investors generally acquire coins to properly diversify their investment portfolios and for the security, liquidity and profit potential they provide.
